Wilheimina Long is the Founder and the Executive Director of Youth Matter Inc., also dba as Youth Matter America, a multi-service non-profit organization that has even reached across many states in the TROOPS TO YOUTH™ Initiative, assisting Hurricane Katrina displaced families, as well as servicing youth and families in her own local communities.
She also excels at providing creative services and consulting services to small and large businesses, as well as local, state and federal agencies. Wilheimina has over 23 years of experience in business management and design services. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Mary Washington (former Mary Washington College), where she majored in Fine Arts.
During the Clinton Administration she accompanied Secretary of Energy Hazel R. O’Leary on the Presidential Mission on Sustainable Energy where she traveled to New Delhi, lndia, Hong. Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, China, and South Africa, providing design support services to Secretary O’Leary for media presentations for various ambassadors, where she designed materials in English and Chinese. Wilheimina is also a portrait artist where she has exhibited at the, as well as state-wide and local art shows.
Some of Wilheimina’s honors include:
- 2012 National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. Eastern Region Citation Award;
- 2008 President’s Volunteer Call to Service Award where she has donated over 4000 hours of her time through community service in running Youth Matter Inc., while also working for HILTEK;
- 1996 Vice President Al Gore “Hammer Award” for Innovation in the Government where she created a document that displayed the Secretary’s goals and accomplishments in reporting to the President of the United States – this document became a standard for all federal agencies reporting to the President.
While studying at the University of Mary Washington she met Ron Miller, her book’s illustrator, as she was a college intern under his direction at his Black Cat Studio. Now many years later, they team as author and illustrator in the development of her first children’s book. Creating what is to become the Ray book series is so very dear to her heart, as her desire is to motivate and encourage children to be their best and to always strive to excel.
